Bayer Monsanto Roundup Settlement News

“Glyphosate can cause cancer”

Monsanto and subsequently Bayer have been involved in Roundup litigation cases and roundup settlements since 2015. The first Roundup lawsuits emerged soon after the IARC published its findings linking glyphosate to Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. Since then, 1000s of lawsuits have been filed against Roundups manufacturers. There have been notable big case wins for individual lawsuits, such as the huge payments that were awarded to Dewayne Johnson in 2018 and Richard Gonzales in 2019. These men were awarded $289 and $80 million respectively, although we should make it clear that judges reduced the payouts after appeals from Monsanto .

Its not altogether clear when the Roundup litigation will end. Bayer has tried to reach deals with claimants, including that massive $10.9 billion settlement. This is a record settlement figure in the history of Big Pharma litigation. At the time, Bayer executives the right action at the right time.

But its possible indeed, its likely that many more people will come forward with genuine claims for compensation after contracting cancer linked to Roundup. Bayer has threatened to put the Monsanto arm of its company into bankruptcy in an effort to contain the multi-billion-dollar litigation it faces. That hasnt materialized, however, and as we look forward to 2021, Bayer faces further litigation for Roundup.

How Do You Get Roundup Off Your Skin

Home » Frequently Asked Questions » Lung Cancer » How Do You Get Roundup Off Your Skin?

If you are using the Roundup herbicide regularly, you may worry about getting the chemical glyphosate on your skin during application. Washing the herbicide off your skin with a saline solution can remove the substance, according to Food and Chemical Toxicology. Rinsing the affected area with water immediately can also help to wash some of the chemical off your skin.

Glyphosate is the main ingredient in Roundup, which is one of the most widely used herbicides in the United States, according to the National Pesticide Information Center .

If you fail to get Roundup off your skin as soon as you notice it is on there, or if it comes into contact with any broken or damaged skin, your body could absorb some of the chemical. This can potentially cause adverse health effects. It may be possible that some of the chemical can enter the body through healthy skin, and repeated exposure to Roundup may cause health problems.

If you use Roundup frequently, you should be extremely careful in handling the herbicide. Wear protective clothing and rinse off any spills on your skin immediately.

Roundup has recently been in the press for being harmful to ones health, and it has been linked to cancer risks. Studies are still ongoing to establish all the potential health and environmental risks of Roundup.

What Do Scientists Say

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency says theres no evidence that glyphosate causes cancer in humans. The European Food Safety Authority agrees. The World Health Organizations International Agency for Research on Cancer, however, stated in 2015 that glyphosate is probably carcinogenic to humans. CNN reported that hundreds of patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma started suing the manufacturers of glyphosate herbicides after WHO made its announcement.

In 2019, researchers at University of Washington concluded that using glyphosate increases the risk of non-Hodgkin lymphoma by 41 percent. In the study, published in MutationResearch, researchers wrote that an analysis of human epidemiological studies suggests a compelling link between exposures to and increased risk for non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

In May 2021, however, a federal judge in San Francisco rejected a $2 billion plan to settle future claims. And thousands of cancer claims remain unresolved.

Protect Yourself From Roundup Exposure By:

  • Wear sturdy rubber gloves during use.
  • Wear safety glasses with side view protection.
  • Wear closed toed socks and shoes
  • Wear long sleeve pants and shirts.
  • If your sprayer is leaking be sure to fix it!

Meanwhile, the less you can expose yourself to round up the better. Ultimately you should be using a waterproof suite, that you only use for spraying Roundup, unfortunately that is not always convenient.

Roundup Class Action Lawsuit Claims Cancer Risks

Normal mole or skin cancer: How to tell the difference ...

A pair of proposed class action lawsuits have been filed on behalf of Canadians who experienced a significant exposure to the popular weed killer Roundup.

The Roundup cancer risks class action lawsuits have since been consolidated into the Ontario Superior Court of Justice located in London, Ontario. The complaints name Monsanto of Canada, Monsanto, and its parent company, Bayer, as defendants.

According to the consolidated Roundup cancer risks class action lawsuits, a link between the active ingredient in Roundup, glyphosate, and a certain type of cancer has been discovered. People who have had a significant exposure to the weed killer are allegedly more likely to develop the cancer, Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

The plaintiffs claim that they and others who experienced a significant exposure to Roundup, defined as using the product at least twice a year with at least one of those uses amounting to over 500 milliliters, are more likely to develop Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.

Is Roundup Dangerous To Humans

Depending on who you ask, you will get two different answers to the question of whether or not Roundup is dangerous to humans.

If you read or talk to Monsanto, the company that makes this product, they will claim that there is no evidence that their product will cause any health problems as long as it is used correctly. Their claims say that independent studies that find otherwise are nothing more than junk science.

However, you read those studies, you will see that careful reviews of the product, the use, and large test groups have shown that this chemical that is widely used on a lot of the food we eat is indeed dangerous. Just how dangerous? Studies have shown that Roundup can lead to a number of health problems including:

  • ADHD
  • Reproductive Problems
  • And More

There are dozens of different health problems that are strongly correlated with those who have been heavily exposed to Roundup, or live in an area that see heavy Roundup use.

Have you worked with this dangerous chemical? Have you been diagnosed with a serious illness or disease? You dont have to just take it! You deserve justice, and the Roundup attorneys with Arentz Law are here to help. Schedule your no obligation consultation by calling .

Falsification Of Test Results

Some tests originally conducted on glyphosate by contractors were later found to have been fraudulent, along with tests conducted on other pesticides. Concerns were raised about toxicology tests conducted by Industrial Bio-Test Laboratories in the 1970s and Craven Laboratories was found to have fraudulently analysed samples for residues of glyphosate in 1991. Monsanto has stated that the studies have since been repeated.

Herbicide Runoff Water And Wildlife

No doubt about it, pesticide and herbicide runoff is a source of many forms of pollution. ^Glyphosate, and many other pesticides like Atrazine are wreaking havoc on many water sources across the nation.

Pesticide runoff can contaminate surrounding streams and even groundwater supplies. Though this is mostly a concern on industrial level farms, it can still have an impact in your community if herbicides are too commonly used. ^^

If you think this is not a big deal, bare in mind that common dog has been known to turn local water supplies toxic. ^

But, wait there is more.

Surprisingly, Its not just fertilizers, and animal waste that lead to algea blooms. In fact, the mass die off of plants sprayed by herbicide may also contribute to algea blooms the same way as fertilizer.

This is caused by the rapid decay and release of the nutrients held in the plants which died. ^

Linking Roundup To Cancer

The debate over whether Roundups glyphosate can cause cancer in humans continues.

A few months after IARC said glyphosate probably causes cancer in humans, the European Food Safety Authority said glyphosate was unlikely to cause cancer in humans.

But there are many other studies in the United States and globally that link glyphosate to non-Hodgkin lymphoma and other cancers.

This includes a from researchers in Italy and Brazil that concluded exposure to glyphosate increases the risk for cutaneous melanoma.

Why Is There No Roundup Recall

Many people have been asking why Roundup hasnt been recalled? This is due to a number of reasons. First, there is still an ongoing debate in the scientific community on whether Roundup causes cancer. Second, there is the decision by the EPA not to ban Roundup products. Both of those areas are fluid, and it is, therefore, possible that Roundup may be recalled in the future. Several countries, including, ironically, Bayers home country of Germany, have put plans in place to ban or gradually phase out Roundup and other glyphosate-based products.

Which Foods Have Glyphosate

You may have heard in recent news that oat-based products like oatmeal, cereal, granola bars, and snack bars have glyphosate.

In one report from California scientists and the World Health Organization, 43 of 45 oat-based products tested had it. Popular breakfast foods like Quaker Old Fashioned Oats and Cheerios had above-average levels.

Itâs also in grain and bean products like pasta, buckwheat, barley, kidney beans, and chickpeas.

Some foods may surprise you, like avocados, apples, blueberries, cherries, cucumbers, dates, dried peas, garlic, lemons, olives, peanuts, pomegranates, potatoes, rice, spinach, sugarcane, tobacco, tomatoes, and walnuts.

Stay Safe While Using Roundup

While the jury may still be out on whether Roundup and other glyphosate-based weed killers can cause cancer, it’s still a good idea to take safety precautions when using it. If you decide to use Roundup, whether you are just doing some work around the house or using it as an industrial herbicide, here are some ways to stay safe:

  • Store it in a safe place, out of reach of children, when not in use.
  • When using it, wear appropriate safety gear, such as long sleeves, pants, gloves, goggles, and a face mask.
  • If you get any on your skin or in your eyes, follow the instructions on the bottle to rinse with water for 15-20 minutes.
  • If you swallow any of it, call a poison control center or your doctor immediately.

Of course, you can also just kill weeds the old-fashioned way – by pulling them up by the roots!

The Change In How Agriculture Is Produced Has Brought Frankly A Change In The Profile Of Diseases Weve Gone From A Pretty Healthy Population To One With A High Rate Of Cancer Birth Defects And Illnesses Seldom Seen Before

Cancer Patients Blame Weed Killer Roundup

Roundup seemed, at first, to be the perfect herbicide. It blocks the ESPS synthase enzyme, which prevents the synthesis of amino acids that plants need for growth. Since animals dont have this enzyme, it was initially hypothesized that they would be safe from Roundups effects.

Unfortunately, Roundup has now been shown to affect much more than the EPSP synthase enzyme. The herbicide has been proven to cause birth defects in vertebrates, including in humans, and it may also be the cause of a fatal kidney disease epidemic.

An increasing number of studies are now linking the herbicide to cancer.

Roundup Linked to Increased Cancer in Soy Republic

Roundup is now heavily sprayed in what is known as the Soy Republic, an area of Latin America larger than the state of California. This region has undergone a profound transformation since genetically modified crops were first introduced in 1996. Some 125 million acres in Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Uruguay and Paraguay are now devoted to GM soy production.

Doctors serving these areas have documented an alarming increase in cancers. A group of dedicated physicians formed an organization, Doctors of Fumigated Towns. They held a national conference in August of 2010 in Córdoba, the center of Argentinas soy region. The Department of Medical Sciences of the National University at Córdoba sponsored the conference. An estimated 160 doctors from throughout the country attended.

What Causes Basal And Squamous Cell Skin Cancers

While many risk factors for basal and squamous cell skin cancers have been found, its not always clear exactly how these factors might cause cancer.

Most basal cell and squamous cell skin cancers are caused by repeated and unprotected skin exposure to ultraviolet rays from sunlight, as well as from man-made sources such as tanning beds.

UV rays can damage the DNA inside skin cells. DNA is the chemical in each of our cells that makes up our genes, which control how our cells function. We usually look like our parents because they are the source of our DNA. But DNA affects more than just how we look.

Some genes help control when our cells grow, divide into new cells, and die:

  • Genes that help cells grow, divide, and stay alive are called oncogenes.
  • Genes that keep cell growth in check by slowing down cell division or causing cells to die at the right time are called tumor suppressor genes.

Cancers can be caused by DNA changes that keep oncogenes turned on, or that turn off tumor suppressor genes. These types of gene changes can lead to cells growing out of control.

Researchers dont yet know all of the DNA changes that result in basal or squamous cell skin cancer, but they have found that in many skin cancers the cells have changes in tumor suppressor genes.

These are not the only gene changes that play a role in the development of skin cancer. There are many others as well.

In The Final Sad Irony When The Cancer Cells Reach Their Growth Peak They Kill Their Host And Die In The Process

The science is clear, but powerful economic interests have, thus far, prevailed. The executives of the biotech agricultural corporations and their backers have ignored or denied the science documenting Roundups harm.

Biotech agricultures most powerful backer, it seems, is the government of the United States.

This official policy was explained in a 2010 US State Department cable from former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton:

Our biotech outreach objectives for 2010 are to increase access to, and markets for, biotech as a means to help address the underlying causes of the food crisis, and to promote agricultural technologys role in mitigating climate change and increasing biofuel production.

The US government has been willing to exercise its muscle in support of the biotech agricultural corporations.

In El Salvador, for example, the United States recently pressured the government to buy Monsantos GM seeds or risk losing $277 million in development aid. El Salvador refused and stood firm, preferring to buy the seeds from its own struggling farmers.

Cancers Lessons

There is a disturbing parallel between the exponential growth of biotech agriculture and the spread of a cancer in the human body.

Like a cancer, biotech agriculture has crowded out its neighbors and is spreading relentlessly. Also like a cancer, it makes harmful substances. Roundup is one of them. As more acreage comes under GM cultivation, we can expect Roundup use to continue to increase.
