What Does Adapalene Do For The Skin

What Should I Avoid While Using Adapalene Topical

How I Cleared My Skin | My experience with Differin & Tretinoin

Avoid exposure to sunlight or tanning beds. Adapalene can make you sunburn more easily. Wear protective clothing and use sunscreen when you are outdoors.

Avoid using other skin medications that contain sulfur, resorcinol, or salicylic acid .

Avoid using skin products that can cause irritation, such as harsh soaps, shampoos, or skin cleansers, hair coloring or permanent chemicals, hair removers or waxes, or skin products with alcohol, spices, astringents, or lime.

What Is Differin Gel How Does It Compare To Differin Cream

Differin is produced in two formulations: a gel, and a cream. Differin gel is transparent and quite dense – when applied, it will be absorbed relatively quickly. Differin cream, though, is white and much oilier – it will take longer to be absorbed, but it also has moisturizing properties that will help if the affected area is uncomfortably dry.

In most cases, the gel formulation of Differin is easier to use because it applies clear and soaks into the skin rapidly, but it will depend on your particular case. If you’re not sure, you may want to try each form to see which you prefer.

What Is The Difference Between Aging Vs Photoaging

As we have discussed, aging is normal and a number of intrinsic factors contribute to the skins aging appearance. However, extrinsic or outside causes can also add to, or even accelerate the aging process. One prime culprit is the sun itself.

is aging that is induced by UV light exposure. UV light penetrates through the skin and disrupts DNA at the cellular level, prematurely aging the skin. Furthermore, this DNA damage increases the risk of developing skin cancer.

All unprotected skin is susceptible to photoaging, but not everyone will be affected equally. Skin tone and geographic location affect ones risk. In general, people with lighter skin and those living closer to the equator are more prone to photoaging.

Collagen Elastin & Glycosaminoglycan: Why Does Skin Age

As people grow older, their skin naturally loses its youthful look over time due to a combination of decreases in collagen, elastin, and glycosaminoglycans as well as changes in exfoliation.

Skin Aging Due to Collagen

Collagen is a protein responsible for the firmness and structure of the skin. Though collagen is commonly associated with the skin, it is also found in the bones as well. Your body naturally makes collagen from amino acids but it can also be ingested in the form of powder supplements. Decreases in collagen production with age lead to thinner, less firm skin in comparison to ones younger years. In fact, it has been estimated that once you hit your 20s, you lose about 1% of collagen each year. That is an approximate 10% loss by the time someone is age 30!

Skin Aging Due to Elastin

Elastin is another type of protein found in the body. As its name eludes, it brings elasticity and stretchiness to the skin. Its purpose is to give the skin its ability to retain its shape after being stretched. Decreased elastin means that the skin does not bounce back as easily as it did before. For example, if you were to pinch the skin and then release it on the average 80-year-old skin versus 20-year-old skin, the former would take longer to return to the baseline state because of different elastin levels.

How To Cope With The Differin Purge

8 month update using 0.3% adapalene (+ 2.5% BP) :) : tretinoin

This purging phase is threatening because it can lead acne sufferers to think that the Differin isn’t actually going to work, causing them to stop applying it and seek alternative treatment. While Differin isn’t right for everyone, you should have your symptoms inspected before you even think about discontinuing treatment.

In most cases, all that must be done to escape the purge is to endure it for a week or so. Once all the blockages lurking beneath the surface have been cleared, the skin can begin to truly get better, and Differin shines in this regard – users often continue to see improvement for many months after beginning treatment.

How Long Does Differin Take To Work

Differin takes time to work. Some people will notice an improvement within two to three weeks. Acne may temporarily worsen before getting better. You can expect benefits in eight to 12 weeks with continued use.

If you dont see an improvement in your skin condition after 12 weeks of constant use, follow up with your healthcare provider to see if you should stop this medication.

Healthy Alternatives To Differin

In order to avoid the worrying side effects of Differin, there are fortunately many alternatives that can clear your acne with much safer ingredients.

Vitamin A

Differin is a retinoid, meaning it is derived from Vitamin A. But through supplements or through a healthy diet, you can include Vitamin A as an ingredient in your skincare treatment without having to worry about photosensitivity or potentially worsening your acne.

Vitamin A supplements can be a healthier and more natural way to contribute to your skin health without needing to use Differin gel.

Azelaic Acid

Differin works by increasing cell turnover which exfoliates your skin and thus may clear out excess dead skin cells and bacteria trapped inside your pores.

Azelaic Acid does the same thing, but it doesn’t lead to photosensitivity.

That’s why we chose to bypass Differin as an ingredient when making our Clearing Tonic, instead opting for Azelaic Acid as one of the active ingredients.

A Skin Care Routine

Typically, one single ingredient won’t get rid of your acne, simply because acne is caused by a variety of factors. While one ingredient, like Azelaic Acid, can clear out clogged pores, you would still need other ingredients to treat the other causes of acne such as inflammation and excess of P. acnes bacteria.

Retinoids like Differin dry out your skin and can lead to inflammation. A holistic skincare routine with calming ingredients like passionflower can be a better alternative.

Does Differin Gel Really Work

My Favourite Acne Treatments – Adapalene | Dr Sam Bunting

The short answer is yes. Most dermatologists love and recommend Differin Gel, and the slew of positive reviews probably speak for themselves. Additionally, as an older 2006 study pointed out, Differin Gel is a good option for people who have had acne and are looking for a product that will help prevent future acne.

While this study examined a stronger suspension of adapalene, the results showed reduced scarring in patients who used this treatment over a 4-month period.

How Do I Take Adapalene For Anti

Adapalene is applied once a day topically to the skin on the face. This application can be anytime during the day, either in the morning or at night. Before applying adapalene, you first need to cleanse your face and allow it to dry. Then, you will take a pea-sized amount of adapalene from the tube. Spread it in a thin layer on your entire face, taking care to avoid the eyes and lips. That may seem like too small of an amount, but that is all that you will need! Any more than that would be too irritating to the skin. When it comes to skincare, less is more.

Differin Gel Vs Tretinoin Cream

Differin Adapalene Gel 0.1% Acne Treatment 15g 30 Day Supply 0.5 Ounce ...

A common alternative to Differins adapalene is tretinoin, a medication used to treat acne and sun damage. Like adapalene, tretinoin has also been found to improve the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots.

Tretinoin is a form of retinoic acid and is also known as Retin-A. The prescription-strength topical cream works by irritating the skin and speeding up the life cycle of skin cells. It makes the cells divide and die faster, promoting the production of newer and healthier cells.

Tretinoin is a synthetic version of vitamin A. This means that its stronger, and youll have to obtain a prescription for the product. Its also stronger than retinol and isnt tolerated as well by sensitive skin.

You should steer clear of tretinoin if youre:

  • frequently exposed to the sun

If youre on any other medications, you should tell your doctor to make sure it wont interact with tretinoin.

Tretinoin is also used topically. You should wash your face and wait 20 to 30 minutes before applying the medication to the specific areas that you need it.

Retinoids That Don’t Burn: All About Adapalene Gel

Though Graf says its best used as a moisturizer, it is safe and beneficial to use it as a serum as well. When considering how to add glycerin to your skin care routine, it is best to think about what you want to achieve with this ingredient, says Engelman. If the goal is to support and maintain hydration throughout the day, a serum is a great choice as it will be absorbed and can sustain layering other skin care ingredients on top. If the goal is to heal or prevent moisture loss, a thicker, more occlusive cream may be well-suited.

Because of its minimal side effects, she adds that glycerin is safe to use every day. Just be aware of your individual skin type and concerns, she says. Make sure to use glycerin in a way that best supports your skins health.
