Which Skin Types Is Turmeric Best For
Turmeric can be used on all skin types, but it’s particularly great for dull, itchy and/or sensitive skin, says Dr. Bhanot. But note that it is possible to have a turmeric allergy and it is important to patch test to a small area before applying it to a larger area, adds Dr. Patel. You can patch test behind your ear, and if there is no redness or itching, then you can go ahead and use turmeric in your skincare, notes Dr. Bhanot.
How Does It Work
Curcuminhas been demonstrated in in vitro studies to inhibit the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme necessary for melanin production. While this characteristic has not yet been tested in clinical studies, it leans toward the premise that regular topical applications of turmeric may gradually lighten skin. Over time, as darker skin cells are naturally exfoliated, they would be replaced by cells that represent ones natural skin color.

Will Turmeric Stain Your Skin
Theres a possibility that you might stain your skin with turmeric. However, this is usually linked to higher amounts of topically-applied turmeric powder. Hence, it is recommended that you use only small amounts of this ingredient and not soak in it for more than 30 minutes at a time. If you notice some yellowing while rinsing your face, apply a facial scrub to gently exfoliate your stained skin. Rinse thoroughly with water after scrubbing.
What Does Turmeric Go With
Turmeric and Lemon for Skin Whitening
Lemon and turmeric make for the perfect duo for those in search of effective skin lightening. Lemon is a natural bleaching agent for both skin and hair, and turmeric has the ability to modify melanin levels for more even, consistent tones.
Turmeric and Coconut Oil for Skin
Coconut oil makes for a great carrier agent for the properties of turmeric, be they for both oral or topical use. Coconut oil, like turmeric, has antifungal properties, and is also a fabulous skin moisturizer.
Turmeric and coconut oil, as a mix, does not need to be washed off post application, but can merely be wiped away after having been given a few minutes absorption time.
Turmeric and Milk
Turmeric mixed into milk is often known as golden milk, and is a kind of healthy latte that is used to take inflammation or joint pain that is residing within the physical body.
According to Dr. Linda Khoshaba, founder of Natural Endocrinologist Specialists, Some dermatologists have said turmeric can prevent redness, irritation, hair loss, and cardiovascular disease, all of which may be a by-product of inflammation.
Heating the milk prior to mixing in the turmeric is the key to unlocking a myriad of health benefits contained within the turmeric itself.
Turmeric and Yogurt for Skin
As we know, yoghurt is particularly great to combine with turmeric for the purpose of targeting dark circles under the eyes.

Welcome To My New Glowing Skin Series
With colder months on the way, I thought it would be fun to do a little beauty series to keep our skin glowing and hydrated through the upcoming winter. Over the next few weeks, Ill be sharing my favorite DIY face masks, scrubs, winter skin tips and more! See my Natural Vegan Skincare Routine for a daily look into what I use.
Would be nice to keep that summer glow year round, right?! This mask is not only brightening but its great for acne-prone skin and bringing you a glowy complexion.
The vegan police may be after me for this one though while I do not consume honey, Ive always loved the medicinal properties for the skin. Mainly pointing towards manuka honey, the healing aspects are endless. I bought this manuka honey from Trader Joes over the summer without thinking then started to feel major guilt that I ignorantly bought it in the first place. Vegans arent supposed to eat/use honey and there is great debate about this in the vegan community refer back to this post outlining my thoughts on plant based vs. vegan. If youre concerned, simply swap it out for agave nectar to achieve the same sticky consistency.
Normally, I wouldnt purchase any products with honey so not sure what I was thinking.. but I have a small bottle of it and Im not going to beat myself up over it. Im going to use it for beauty related purposes like this Brightening Turmeric DIY Face Mask
Manuka honey originates from New Zealand, where the bees feast on flowers of the Tea Tree Plant.
Will A Turmeric Mask Stain My Face
While the powerful antioxidants present in turmeric impart that vibrant yellow color, be aware that this same color can stick around a little too long. I learned first-hand just how powerful turmeric is at coloring my pores. As Dr. Gates explains, turmeric may stain pale skin if used in a DIY skincare recipe.
A good rule of thumb to follow is to try it on the inside of your arm for a few minutes first, to get an idea for how long it takes to stain the skin. You can use the 1 minute rule if you notice no discoloration after 60 seconds, leave on for another four minutes. Test again, and keep it on all the way until 10 minutes, which should be the max for most products and at-home solutions.
And, if taken orally at high doses, it may secrete in pores and stain your clothing and skin a yellow color. This typically happens at dosages of higher than 2,000 mg a day.
But I definitely recommend a thin layerthe more you pile on the greater your chances of staining, especially on your neck where the skin is thinner. I noticed some staining on my hands, but it came off easily. You can always wash your face again or wipe it with a milk-soaked cotton ball to help remove any staining.
Your kids/husband might find turmeric masks a little disconcerting, so its also a good idea to do this when you have some alone time!

It Contains Properties That Contribute To A Natural Glow
Turmeric contains antioxidants and anti-inflammatory components. These characteristics may provide glow and luster to the skin. Turmeric may also revive your skin by bringing out its natural glow.
You may want to try a turmeric face mask at home to see if the spice has any positive effects on your skin. You can mix small amounts of Greek yogurt, honey, and turmeric together and apply to your face. Keep the mask on for 15 minutes and then wash off with water.
Should You Try Hydroquinone
Hyperpigmentation and other skin conditions can severely affect a persons mental health. If you find that you have hyperpigmentation or dark spots and have exhausted other options, Hydroquinone may be the choice for you. The lotion can improve your quality of life by eliminating your dark patches and helping to even your skin tone.
If your hyperpigmentation is not severe, you may purchase Hydroquinone over the counter. If you find that the dosage is too low, you can consult with your doctor for a higher dosage. Hydroquinone has been approved as a safe product to apply to the skin, so you should not worry about using it. The fact that you have the option to choose between a lower over-the-counter dose and a higher prescribed dose should help as you can always try a higher dosage if the lower is not adequate. Many patients using Hydroquinone have experienced outstanding results and have lightened their hyperpigmentation by applying the location daily and consistently.

Can You Apply Turmeric On Your Face Everyday
Before applying turmeric on your face, first do a patch test on your arms to check if your skin reacts to it. Wait for 24-48 hours. If you are not allergic to turmeric, then you can safely use it twice or thrice a week. You can use turmeric alone but that will leave yellow stains on your face. Hence, it’s best to mix it with other natural ingredients. You can use a turmeric-infused face mask weekly twice or thrice.
If you find yourself to be allergic to turmeric in food, don’t use it on your skin too.
What Are The Side Effects Of Turmeric
