First Impression: My Thoughts And Opinions On The Kiehls Since 1851 Ultra Facial Cream

If youve been following the blog for quite some time, you already know that I am obsessed with Kiehls as a brand!

I have loved this brand for the longest time! I have been loyal to them ever since trying the Kiehls Midnight Recovery Concentrate, which sits proudly on my vanity even now. I loved the Midnight Recovery Concentrate so much and still do, which made me want to try out every single product that they have!

Thats not possible, of course.

However, since then, I have invested in several products from the brand, such as the Midnight Recovery Eye and the Creamy Eye Treatment. This list doesnt begin to cover the number of products I own by the brand, actually. During my mid-20s, I decided it was time I experimented with as many skincare products as possible to find my Holy-Grails!

I dont know if you have ever had the same feeling as I, so it was a lot of money, some worth it, and some down the drain. But I learned a lot about my skin and about the skincare worth investing in.

During my skincare spree is when I bought myself a tub of Kiehls Ultra Facial Cream. I bought it at an airport duty-free because it turns out I always have some time to kill and some dollars to burn at the airport! So I actually found a set that had some incredible products such as the Kiehls Ultimate Strength Hand Salve and the Kiehls Super Fluid Sunscreen.

Overall, I loved the first impression of Ultra Facial Cream!

Kiehl’s Age Defender Cream Moisturiser

Designed for men looking for a skincare basic that will combat the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, the Age Defender Moisturiser makes use of ingredients such as salicylic acid and linseed extract. You get the welcome caffeine kick from the Facial Fuel here, too.

Because its a mens product, it comes in a black tub with striking red and white writing , and upon unscrewing the lid, youre struck by a similar minty smell to the one emitted by the Facial Fuel.

However, it is definitely a more pungent odour than the Facial Fuels: not quite to the point of being off-putting, but it definitely implies that its here for business rather than pleasure.

The other slightly off-putting thing about this moisturiser is its consistency. Its not thin and silky like the Facial Fuel, but rather thick and oddly gelatinous. Its a bit like Greek yoghurt, actually .

If youre slightly apprehensive before you apply it, though, youll be reassured by its performance. It glides onto the skin beautifully: the gloopy texture transmogrifies into a beautiful, cool, refreshing cream upon contact with your face, and applying it becomes a real treat.

This also means that you really only need a tiny bit to cover your whole face, which should reassure people who are a bit scared of its admittedly doubt-inspiring price tag. In fact, youll find that if you put too much on, it takes a good while to absorb.

Kiehl’s Lavender Gently Exfoliating Body Scrub

I can be quite lazy when it comes to necessary self care. And exfoliating my body definitely falls into that category. First of all, this scrub smells incredible! It actually reminds me of my favourite Lush Sleepy scent. But the biggest reason that we should all be exfoliating our skin in general is that by removing that build up of dead skin, our products can actually work like they should. By not removing that layer and leaving a clean slate from which to start, we’re in turn wasting product and money as it just sits on top.

If lavender isn’t your thing, the scrub also comes in coriander or grapefruit versions.

When buying products to test, I almost didnt pick this one. I thought it would be too heavy for my combination skin, but I was wrong. I found this moisturizer to be both hydrating and lightweight. Now I use this as my go-to moisturizer.

If you have normal or combination skin, you will enjoy this moisturizer. If you have oily skin you might want to use it in the winter when your skin can use a bit more moisture.

Verdict: Buy it!

This moisturizing under-eye cream hydrates dry skin while visibly brightening and de-puffing.

I love this eye cream. It leaves my under eyes feeling nice and hydrated without giving me milia.

This eye cream is thick! But dont let that scare you away. Take a small amount and rub it on your fingers before applying. This will warm the product making it easier to apply. Since a little goes a long way, buy the small jar.

Verdict: Buy it!

Formulated with avocado fruit extract, avocado oil, and evening primrose oil, this mask is formulated to soften and hydrate the skin.

Im going to be direct. I did not like this mask and I cant recommend it. The texture was not creamy. It was not easy to apply. Once removed, the mask left my skin feeling greasy, and not hydrated.

Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying Bb Cream

The Kiehl’s Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream is my second favourite skincare product from the samples I tried. I sampled the one for fair skin and it claims to be clinically proven to correct skin tone irregularities and contains vitamin c.

Since turning 25 this year I have been more aware of looking after my skin and choosing products that will prevent the signs of early ageing, so I have started buying facial creams that contain SPF, because even if the sun isn’t out it can still damage your skin. So I was pleased to find the BB cream has an SPF 50 to provide the skin with high protection. The BB cream felt lovely on the skin, and it does sort of give you that flattering filter look, by making the skin appear more radiant, even and natural.

During the summer I hate piling on the makeup so this is the perfect solution to provide my face with sun protection and a hint of skin matching colour that’s buildable, it’s also lightweight and provides a good coverage.

The brand philosophy centers on tried-and-tested skin care products rather than the trend of the month. While Kiehl continues researching and coming up with new formulations, they keep the old favorites coming, too.

• Eye Cream: Pat under the eyes and onto the brows. Be careful dragging will damage the delicate skin.
• Moisturizer: Apply your Ultra Facial cream as you did the serum. You may need a little more to provide full coverage.

What Is The Difference Between Ultra Facial Cream And Ultra Facial Moisturizer

The two moisturizers contain the same key ingredients, including squalene, glycerin and glacial glycoprotein but the formulas are slightly different. Although the Ultra Facial Moisturizer also contains sweet almond oil, apricot kernel oil and avocado oil, they are listed much further down the ingredients list than they are in the Ultra Facial Cream. Based on customer feedback, the Ultra Facial Moisturizer feels lighter on the face than the Ultra Facial Cream. The Moisturizer does not have salicylic acid and citric acid, which are found in the Ultra Facial Cream.

I found the cream to be highly effective and made my dry areas of skin noticeably softer.

Kiehl’s Pure Vitality Skin Renewing Cream

Much like with my current cleanser, I tend to opt for gel based moisturisers. Mainly GLAMGLOW’s WATERBURST and Clinique’s Moisture Surge, as you may have seen in this blog post. But I could feel that I needed something a bit more substantial but not ridiculously thick either. You see my conundrum?

You slide your finger along this bar to release the amount of product that you’d like without having to dip your fingers into the cream itself. My Thoughts On Kiehls

Looking at Kiehls as a brand, I think its good. There are some products I absolutely adore and others that leave a lot to be desired. I definitely dont think any of the products are bad, but perhaps arent catered to my skins needs or my personal preferences.

Having said that, Kiehls has also produced some absolute gems that I will go back to time and time again. My favourites are the Midnight Recovery Concentrate, the Buttermask for Lips and the Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate. These three products have really improved my skin and I dont see myself without them.

Overall, I think Kiehls is a pretty solid brand. Out of the 8 products Ive tried, none of them are awful, most are good and several are excellent.
