What does a thigh lift do?
Over time, many individuals notice loose, droopy skin on their inner and outer thighs, which can occur from a combination of aging and weight loss. A thigh lift can remove that sagging skin, along with unwanted fat, to create a smoother, more toned appearance and nicer proportions compared to the rest of your body.
Types of thigh lifts
There are two types of thigh lifts:
- Inner thigh lift: This procedure involves firming out the entire thigh area, including saddlebags an accumulation of fat that develops on the outer thigh area. Fat is also removed from around the knees.
- Outer thigh lift: This surgery is a more time-consuming and extensive procedure that often requires an overnight hospital stay. Its usually combined with a lower body lift as well as a buttock lift or augmentation.

How Is It Done
Thigh Lift Surgery is performed in a Licensed Hospital under General Anaesthesia.
A standard thigh lift incision runs in the crease of the groin back to the crease of the buttock. The loose skin is then pulled upwards towards the groin and the excess skin is trimmed off.
If your thigh skin is excessively loose, an additional vertical incision may need to be added on the inner aspect of the thigh as shown in the illustration.
Essentially, the length and pattern of your incisions will depend on how much thigh skin needs to be removed. If you also have excess fat with the loose skin, liposuction may need to be included.
Finally, the incisions are closed, usually with dissolving sutures.
When you wake, you will find dressings in place over your thighs and you may have a small drainage tube exiting from each thigh to drain away unwanted fluid accumulations. These drainage tubes are usually removed the next day.
Once the bandages and drainage tubes are removed, you will need to start wearing your Compression Garment. This garment needs to be worn for the next 6 weeks to help your thighs heal faster and produce a better final result.
Although a better upper thigh shape will be apparent immediately after the surgery, bear in mind that your thigh tissues are still swollen and it will take another 3-4 weeks for most of the swelling to subside.
Thermage For Skin Tightening
Thermage is a highly effective, non-invasive treatment that uses radiofrequency energy to improve skin laxity, boost collagen production, erase fine lines and wrinkles, and improve the appearance of cellulite. Thermage has been FDA approved to treat loose skin across many areas of the body, and is often used as a part of non-surgical facelifts, to decrease hooding over the eyes and contour the jawline. The procedure can also be used to address skin laxity on other areas of the body, such as the arms, abdomen, buttocks, legs, and thighs. The treatment works via radiofrequency energy to heat the inner layers of skin, triggering the bodys natural healing process, which boosts the bodys production of collagen. The new collagen that forms over time works to tighten and smooth the skin in the treatment area, and results will continue to gradually improve in the 4-6 months following treatment. The skin tightening occurs immediately following treatment as well, as the RF energy causes the water molecules to separate from the collagen-rich bands deep under the surface of the skin. This separation leads to an immediate tightening for instant results.

Causes Of Inner Thigh Skin Sag
Did she so it or didnt she? Did Beyonce, the woman who only needs one name, photoshop her world famous legs to create the image of a thigh gap? We can all agree that Beyonce is flawless, so why is she so concerned with creating the illusion of thinner thighs?A survey commissioned by REAL Magazine found that , of the body parts that cause the most dissatisfaction to women, 91% of women named their hips and thighs.Inner thighs are a cause of consternation for many, mainly because inner thigh muscles can be very difficult to target with exercise. Overweight women may find loose skin forming in this area. Muscle targeting can be helpful, but it often does not completely solve the problem.
Identifying Loose SkinIf you have loose skin on your thighs, you probably dont need any help identifying it, nor do you want to help anyone else identify it. However, for those of you who may be new to it, saggy thighs are often characterized by drooping skin that hangs lax from the muscle without tone. It is often wrinkly and may have cellulite and is common in those who have had a recent dramatic weight loss.
CausesWhen obesity occurs, skin expands to accommodate the excess fat. When weight loss occurs, the added skin remains and will only increase the amount of weight lost. Sagging thighs can also develop from a general lack of physical activity or age. Excessive sun exposure can also break down collagen in the legs, causing the skin to sag.
Thermage Vs Ultherapy On Thighs
Another treatment that is used to tighten the skin in Ultherapy. Though Ultherapy and Thermage serve a similar function addressing skin laxity by boosting collagen production, the two treatments work in very different ways. While Thermage employs radiofrequency technology to heat the inner layers of skin, Ultherapy relies on ultrasound heat and visualization energy to trigger the bodys collagen production response. The two treatments also differ in that Ultherapy is only FDA approved to treat the face and decolletage, whereas Thermage is FDA approved to treat the face, decolletage, neck, arms, abdomen, thighs, buttocks, and above the knee. Thermage is also a much more comfortable treatment option than Ultherapy. Ultherapy may require some downtime following the procedure, which Thermage does not, and Ultherapy also requires patients to take a pain medication before treatment. For that reason, Dr. Green prefers to use Thermage for skin tightening as opposed to Ultherapy.

Do I Need A Thigh Lift What About Coolsculpting
In some cases, surgical intervention might be needed if non-surgical or minimally-invasive procedures wont achieve the results youre looking for. A thigh lift is usually reserved for patients with significant excess skin that cant be effectively tightened with laser treatments. This is common after massive weight loss, which leaves behind excess, stretched skin. During a consultation, we can make a professional recommendation about your options.
Additionally, CoolSculpting® may not be effective in reducing fat except in cases of small areas of fat that fit within the CoolSculpting handpiece. If the area is too large, CoolSculpting can be too effective and result in dips in the fatty area. We can assess your concerns and make the right recommendation on whether CoolSculpting is the best option for you.

What Happens During A Thigh Lift
Intravenous sedation and general anesthesia are administered during the procedure to prevent any discomfort. Depending on your condition and desired cosmetic results, your surgeon will perform the following incision techniques in your thighs:
- Inner thigh lift incision: Your surgeon creates an incision starting from your groin and around the back of your thigh.
- Medial thigh lift incision: Also known as inner thigh lift incision, the incision is made in the area between your thighs and pubic region.
- Outer thigh lift incision: Your surgeon makes an incision starting from your groin going to the area around your hip and across your back.
Once the incisions are created, your surgeon will remove excess fat and skin from your thighs to reshape the area. Your surgeon will then close the incisions using sutures or adhesive tapes.

What Causes Loose Skin On Your Legs And Thighs
There is a wide range of factors that cause our skin to loosen and sag. Probably the primary contributor is the natural aging process. As we get older, collagen and elastin levels, key proteins responsible for keeping our skin tight and elastic, begin to decrease. This leads to the skin becoming loose and wrinkly over time.
There can be other causes for loose skin on your thighs and legs. For example, many people who lose weight report having some degree of loose or sagging skin, particularly after reaching a large weight loss goal.
Recovering From The Thigh
Recovery takes a total of four to six weeks. The patient will feel tired and sore for three to seven days after the operation. It is recommended to wear a compression garment to help define the new contour of your thigh. The compression garment should be worn continuously for two to three weeks and then for a similar period additionally during nights.
Rigorous activities should be avoided for at least three weeks. Bruising and swelling are normal after a procedure like this but it will subside in time as you heal. Painkillers and anti-inflammation medication is generally prescribed to help cope with the swelling and soreness.
Walking is advised after a thigh-lift surgery to reduce swelling and prevent blood-clots from forming in the leg. The results of a thighplasty are long-lasting and usually visible immediately after the surgery.

Thermage And Cellulite Reduction On Legs
Cellulite can appear in areas across the body but is most common on the thighs and buttocks. The condition affects as many as 90% of women in the United States and can be very hard to treat using natural processes. Even with weight loss, a healthy diet, and a steady exercise regimen, cellulite can stubbornly stick around. If cellulite is keeping you from wearing shorts or swimsuits in the summer, rest assured that there are treatment options available at Dr. Greens office to reduce the appearance of cellulite on the legs.
Cellulite occurs when the fibrous bands that connect skin to the muscles below the surface cause the fat cells accumulated in the area to bulge out. This results in a dimpled, rolling appearance on the surface of the skin that is characteristic of cellulite. Many patients believe that cellulite can only be improved with the help of liposuction, however, there are many non-surgical options available to address the appearance of cellulite. At Dr. Greens office, she offers a combination of treatments to combat cellulite all across the body. When it comes to cellulite reduction on the legs, Dr. Green will use Thermage in combination with treatments such as Velashape, QWO injectable treatment, and CoolSculpting. With these treatments, Thermage helps to boost collagen production, which smooths out the surface of the skin and reduces the appearance of cellulite in the treatment area.

Thebad news, the problem can get worse with age. Skin changes, including saggyskin and wrinkles, are among the most common signs of aging.
Theproduction of collagen and elastin decreases as we get older, making loose skinmore likely. Also, the skin will sag a little further down in time due to thedreaded pull of gravity. Plus, the epidermis getsthinner over time, even though if there is no a significant change with thenumber of cell layers .
Exposureto the suns powerful rays is another common culprit. Ultraviolet rays candamage cells of the skin. Over the long run, this could take a serious toll onyour skin health. In fact, excessive sun exposure is one of the leading causesfor premature skin aging.

Is It Possible To Tighten Up The Loose Skin On My Inner Thighs With Exercise
When working out, it’s common to focus your efforts on areas of the body that seem especially saggy. However, the inner thighs can be a rather troublesome spot, since many exercises don’t target these muscles. If you are overweight, loose skin may form in this area, causing your legs to appear anything but svelte. Specific exercises can aid you in your efforts toward tighter thigh skin, but might not remedy the situation completely.
How To Tighten Loose Skin On The Inner Thighs
Loose skin on the inner thighs can occur through rapid weight loss, excess weight and lack of exercise. There are some exercises that you can do at home and in the gym that can help to tighten and tone your inner thighs, giving you a healthier appearance while building muscle. When doing these exercises, you can pick a few to stick with as part of your basic regimen or alternate between exercises based on your results. When doing the exercises, perform eight to 12 repetitions with enough weight or resistance to cause fatigue without overtaxing your muscles.
Perform barbell step-up exercises at the gym to tighten and build muscle on your thighs. Start by facing the side of a sturdy bench, and position a barbell on the back of your shoulders, grasping the barbell at the sides. Put your first foot on the bench. Stand on the bench by extending your hip or knee, then place your second foot on the bench. Step down with your second leg by flexing your hip or knee of your first leg. Return to the starting position, and repeat, as desired, alternating legs.
Add the hip adductor exercise to your gym workout. Start by sitting in the machine with your thighs placed against each pad. Slowly move each thigh toward the center of your body, and then slowly move your thighs away from your body as far as possible to complete one repetition. Repeat the exercise for the desired amount of repetitions.
