Light Skin Tone: Fair Slightly Yellow
If you have light, fair, or pale skin, and / or skin tone with a slight yellow undertone :
- Wear: Pastels, they look best on you. Think baby blue, light pink, lavender, pale yellow. Neutrals also look good on you, such as a lighter beige and heather gray.
- Try to avoid: Really striking or primary colors. Also, too much deep, dark color can wash you out. Stay away from all black or all navy.
Cool Tone: Julianne Hough
Best hair colors include: Platinum, ice/silver blonde, red, ashy blonde, champagne, gold, honey
Best colors to wear: Neutrals, pastels, jewel tones
Something too dark or light can sometimes feel harsh for everyday, says Quinlan. I tend to advise my clients to stay away from those extremes unless they are really going for more of a look. You can add subtle contrast with darker neutral colors and jewel tones.
Compare Your Skin Tone With Different Color Swatches
Thats where color swatches come in. To find out what colors work best for your skin tone, grab some colored paper or fabric swatches and take a look at them side-by-side with your skin.
What youll notice is that the colors on your skin will appear dull and grayish compared to the same color on the paper or fabric. This is because our skin is translucent and lets some light pass through it, so it doesnt reflect as much color as something opaque like paper or fabric does. The more translucent your skin is , the less contrast there will be between different hues when theyre placed next to each otherespecially reds!
Different people have different undertones and tones in their complexions: those who are cool have blue undertones while those who are warm have peach ones those with high contrast have dark hair and eyes while those with low contrast have light hair and eyes women tend to be cooler than men older people tend to be warmer than younger ones etcetera etcetera blah blah blah so when choosing clothing colors based on whether they look good next to your face , you should keep these factors in mind!

What Is Color Analysis
Color analysis is a surefire method of answering what color suits me?, because it determines which colors of clothing and which makeup shades harmonize with a person’s skin complexion, eye color, and hair color. It will also help you figure out the finer details, like what color of jewelry suits you
There are two areas to consider when analyzing your color – your base skin tone and your overall coloring. Your base skin tone will be either warm or cool, while your overall coloring takes your eye and hair color into consideration.
Anthony McGrath, a celebrity stylist, and lecturer at London’s Fashion Retail Academy advises that it can be useful to “have a color analysis with a stylist or professional color analyst,” however there are ways to figure out your coloring by yourself.
“In a nutshell, you can use your skin tone to determine whether you are warm or cool-toned, and your overall coloring – so how dark your skin is and the color of your natural hair – to determine whether you are light or dark.”

Finding Your Skin Undertone
An undertone is the complexion of your skin, and most people fall between one of three categories: Cool, Warm and Neutral. By understanding what your undertone is, it can help you discover the best shades of color to wear.
Now, what if you dont identify with any of those or feel in the middle? Youre probably a neutral skin tone, which means you can wear either cool or warm tonesgo, you!
Some general color guidelines based on your skin undertone are:

What Is The Best Color For My Skin Tone
Personally, I dont subscribe to a color chart that dictates how you should dress based on your skin tone, says Rhone. Style is, and always has been, about self-expression, and I always advise my clients that if there is a color you like, go and wear it with confidence. That said, its worth being mindful of colors that work together.
So, there you have it. Wear any colors that make you feel good, and the mirror is your friend. The general rule of thumb is that skin with cool undertones look best with greys, browns, blues, greens and purples. Skin with warm undertones look best with either bright or light colors. And skin with neutral undertones looks great in bold, bright colors.
What Is An Undertone
Lets get the basics right. What is exactly an undertone? The tone that we speak of is the color right beneath the surface of the skin. Think of it as a shadow just below your outer layer of skin.
This is why its so important to get yours right because even though the top layer of skin might change over time by sun tanning or prolonged sun damage, the undertone never will. No matter how light or dark your complexion may be, each of us falls into one of three categories: warm, cool, or neutral.
It helps to think of the seasons of the year. You get those seasons associated with warm, luxurious colors Summer and Autumn, and then you get those with crisp, cooler colors Winter and Spring. Generally, the colors associated with those seasons are the colors most likely to enhance the beauty of your skin tone. So, if youre a Winter, for example, cool winter colors like blues, purples, and silvers will make your skin sparkle.
Once you start to recognize which colors truly work best with your skin tone, you will find yourself naturally gravitating towards those colors when shopping. Before you know it, you will be a pro at coordinating outfits for yourself that are truly flattering without even really thinking about it. It will become like second nature.

What Skin Tone Am I
The first step of using color analysis to determine the best shades to suit you is to first figure out whether you have a warm or cool skin tone. A couple of color analysis tests can help you figure your skin tone out quickly and easily.
“Look at the underside of your arm in natural daylight, if you have a pink or rosy undertone and blue-tinted veins you have a cool skin tone,” explains personal stylist Elaine Davies. “If you have a golden or apricot undertone and green-tinted veins you have a warm skin tone.”
Still not sure? Try holding a piece of gold fabric under your chin .
Now do the same with a piece of silver fabric or jewelry. Which shade lights up your complexion and makes your eyes pop? If it’s silver, you’re cool. If it’s gold, you’re warm.
Try On Different Outfits To Determine What Complements Your Skin Tone
- Try on different outfits to determine what complements your skin tone.
- What do you look best in? Does a certain color of shirt make your eyes pop? A certain color of pants help hide the bulge of your belly? You may want to look for clothes that are the same color as your eyes, or complement them. You may also want to try out different colors or patterns before deciding on one that you like best!
- Does this article apply to you? Its not just about dressing according to ones skin tone, but also dressing according to ones age and gender which means that it is possible for a young male human with pale skin tones who loves pastels and stripes would still favor darker colors like blacks, blues/greens/purples over pinks/browns because these colors are more flattering on men than they are on women!
Most Flattering Colors With Brown Hair
Probably the most versatile hair color, brown haired women have a lot to choose from with their dress shade. Rich, warm colors such as bright red or royal purple tend to look fantastic on brunettes. Even though it is nearly impossible to go wrong with black, it is the one color of a dress that may not make a brunettes beautiful hair shine.
Colors For Warm Skin Tones
If you are wondering what colors to wear with warm skin tone, then look no further. For those with a warm skin undertone, earth tones are an excellent choice. The best colors for warm skin tones often include colors like green, brown, mustard yellow and warm reds. Other warm skin tone colors that you can work with are peach, coral, amber and gold. If you want to use cool colors with your outfit, choose ones that are warmer, such as olive, orchid, violet-red and moss.
You can also work with some neutral colors. Softer neutral colors like cream, beige, taupe, mushroom gray and cappuccino all can pair nicely with a warm skin tone. Natural, warm colors generally work well with warmer skin tones.
For watches and other pieces of men’s jewelry, select warm metals, such as gold and copper, rather than silver or platinum. While this doesn’t mean that you can never wear platinum or silver, gold is going to be your go-to choice as it pairs nicely with your undertone. Additionally, try not to wear colors with icy blues or jewel tones in them. These colors often wash out your skin tone and cause your skin to appear gray.
To pick up your fashion game, you can also rely on colors that fit your season. Here are the main colors to rely on as a spring or autumn:

Color Analysis Based On Your Overall Coloring
If you want to pinpoint more precise colors that will suit you, you need to look at more than just your skin tone and consider your overall coloring.
You might have heard friends referring to themselves as spring, summer, autumn, or winter types. But what does it all mean? Well, if your skin tone is cool, you belong to the summer or winter family. If it’s warm, you have spring or autumn coloring. Some people span multiple groups, but one tends to be primary.
Think Of The Message You Wish To Convey
When attending an event, think of the message you wish to pass with your colors. They are subtle ways to pass messages to your host, date, and everyone else. Here are a few colors and the messages they may pass:
Red is used to convey passion and emotional intensity. It is a quick way to grab attention
Yellow portrays energy and joy. However, it is a very bold color and you should be careful not to overdo it
Orange is a visually stimulating color. It portrays creativity and enthusiasm
White is the color of innocence, purity, and perfection.
Black is the color of strength, confidence, and power. It is more elegant than most colors.
Blue is associated with loyalty and it has maximum impact when paired with yellow or red
Green is associated with fertility, nature, money, and growth. It evokes a feeling of stability and safety.
2. Consider Your Undertones
Pick a dress color that suits your undertone. Even though the entire process can seem complicated, you will have an easy time picking clothes once you are done. You can determine your undertone by looking at your wrists. If you have yellow or green veins, your undertone is warm. If, however, you have blue or purple veins, you are cool-toned. This method works regardless of your shade.
Warm colors like gold and dark green will look great on people with warm undertones. If, however, you have cool undertones, gray, silver, and other cool colors are better choices.
